Katy Hall, SC4 Carpenters
Katy Hall
Director
SC4 Carpenters

Katy Hall is owner/Director of SC4 Carpenters Ltd, a family-run SME that provides commercial carpentry, timber frame installation and decorating services, mainly to the new-build housing sector. Katy's journey in construction began nearly 40 years ago. Like many women, she initially supported her carpenter husband with bookkeeping and admin, whilst running her own life science publishing and website development company. Since establishing SC4 Carpenters Ltd, 25 years ago, she has managed all off-site operations—estimating, invoicing, marketing, HR, finance, business development, and strategy — yet I didn't initially identify as a ""woman in construction.""

Today, Katy is a vocal champion for diversity, focusing on neurodivergence, mental health and women in this industry. Her business includes many neurodivergent individuals, including herself. The unique strengths associated with conditions like ADHD and dyslexia bring immense benefits to carpentry, while the challenges often align well with site-based work. As a leader, Katy ensures the business proactively recognises and accommodates the needs of all neurotypes. Crucially, understanding the link between neurodivergence and mental health, she has ensured all SC4's carpentry managers and Directors have received mental health first aid training, and considerations of diversity and mental health form an intrinsic part of her company's culture.
