Rosa Diez is a Project Director for Mott MacDonald Ltd currently working as Tunnel Technical Lead for HS2 Northern tunnels. Rosa has more than 25 years experience in the design and construction of major underground projects around the world, particularly in the metros, railways and hydro sectors. After completing her MSc at Imperial College in Engineering Geology, she has worked for several major international consultancies, managing large design teams for underground projects such as the Heathrow Express, Channel Tunnel Rail Link, Victoria Station Upgrade, Porto Metro and the Crossrail C121 SCL contract.

Sarah is Partner and UK MD at Buro Happold. Starting as a graduate structural engineer, she has worked for the firm for 20 years+, developing a passion for the delivery of multidisciplinary projects. Sarah spent 3 years in Qatar leading the supervision of the engineering works on Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the Msheireb Downtown Doha Project. This project intends to entirely recreate the centre of Doha in a sustainable and sympathetic way for the 21st century. Sarah is the Vice Chair for the Voice of Consultancy workstream for the ACE, and also chairs their Net Zero group. She is Vice Chair of the Construction Council of the CBI. She sits on the Construction Leadership Council (CLC) ConstructZero Advisory Board and on the Advisory Board to the School of Management, University of Bath. Sarah is a Fellow of the ISE and a Chartered Engineer and Member of the ICE. Inclusion and Diversity are a key focus of her leadership, together with gender equality in engineering, being an LGBT ally and the challenges of mental health in the construction industry and beyond.

Lisa has worked in the Highways Maintenance Industry for more than 20 years. A passionate advocate for inclusion she is a founder member of the Women@Amey network and a member of the Amey Inclusion Committee. In 2015 Lisa founded the Amey Challenge Cup, an initiative designed to increase awareness of careers in engineering amongst girls aged 12- 14 from deprived areas. To date the Challenge Cup has reached over 60 schools and more than 600 girls in events stretching from Belfast to Kent.

Josie’s roles centre around skills development and retention in the built environment. Previously Course Director for MSc Civil Engineering at Leeds Beckett University, she is now a Consultant Trainer with PL Projects. She mainly teaches on the Level 4 Associate Project Manager apprenticeship which includes the APM’s PMQ as an on-programme assessment. She is an ICE mentor for civil engineers and an ICE reviewer. She is completing a DEng research project investigating Level 6 Civil Engineering Degree Apprenticeships. Josie is Director of STEER, a social enterprise matching final year built environment students from Leeds Beckett and Nottingham Trent with professional mentors.

A Chartered Civil Engineer with over 25 years’ experience working in the water industry for Binnies. As an experienced Engineering Manager, Helen provides technical direction and adds value by bringing cross-sectional industry insight when appraising and designing flood risk management schemes. She is also Binnies’ Lead Supervising Civil Engineer, heading up their ICE Training Scheme. An active member and Vice Chair for the Civil Engineering Employers’ Training Group, a discussion forum for employers and senior representatives of the ICE that ensures the training of civil engineers provides them with the relevant skills and competencies to address the current industry challenges.

Ros Thorpe, our Director of Education and Standards, joined the Institute in 2009 as an accreditation officer and took on the role of Head of Education in 2011. Prior to that, Ros worked as a teacher of English and corporate courses manager at the British Council in Moscow, where she lived for 10 years. Ros has a degree in English and a post-graduate diploma in Russian, as well as various teaching qualifications. Ros is a Chartered Member of the CMI. Ros is responsible for managing the Institute’s regulated qualifications and exams, the accreditation process, and maintaining the Institute’s published standards, the Education Framework.
